Fan content guidelines
I've been asked for my stance on fan-made stuff a couple of times, so I figured it'd make sense to put it in writing for future reference. I hope that we can mutually agree that if you liked my game, you'll heed these guidelines!
I hope to bring you official Mesmalie merchandise some day, but these guidelines should keep us covered until then.
1. Totally okay, no need to ask permission:
- Recording and sharing gameplay footage
- Fan art*, fan fiction, fan games, music remixes/covers etc. (all non-commercial)
- Creating Mesmalie-based merchandise for yourself and friends/family
- Commissioning an artist to make Mesmalie things
* For mature fan art, make sure it's tagged as such if the platform you're posting on supports this.
2. Credit the game and you're good:
- Offering private art commissions to make Mesmalie things
- Creating & distributing free Mesmalie mods
- Creating free Mesmalie-based mods for other games. Make sure to follow their guidelines too, if available!
You can credit the game by linking its Steam page.
3. Ask me first:
- Selling custom-made Mesmalie merch (e.g. at conventions or in your own online store)
- Paid Mesmalie-based content for other games (e.g. Roblox items, as I've been told those need to be listed with a price)
4. Absolute no-nos:
- Selling Mesmalie designs on sites like redbubble
If you'd like to use Mesmalie's music in your videos or whatever, please purchase the soundtrack on Bandcamp first (or Steam, depending on what works in your region).
If anything is left unclear, or if you'd like to request permission for something listed above, you can message me on Twitter or Bluesky, or send an email to mesmalie(at)orbitaldot(dot)com.
Ta, !
